South of Mareeba, Granite Gorge is a welcome surprise. It has dramatically shaped granite boulders that create a breathtaking stone wilderness home to the endemic Mareeba Rock-Wallaby.

Situated on the rolling hills behind Mareeba it is Australia’s oldest commercial coffee plantation offering coffee tastings, plantation tours and is a wonderful spot for lunch.

Skyrail at Kuranda
Skyrail gondolas take visitors gliding above the canopy of the rainforest, with stops at an interpretative centre and boardwalks into the lush forest. It is worth doing the return trip from Kuranda to Smithfield near Cairns.
