Day One
Lake Eacham
This iconic volcanic crater lake set in the rainforest is a tranquil place to swim and relax. An easy three kilometre walk takes you around the lake which is 65 meters deep and thought to be around 10,000 years old. It is a favourite picnic spot for locals.

Curtain Fig Tree
This iconic tree is accessed by a short boardwalk. Strangler Figs grow in a host tree, taking over in time and strangling the original host. This one toppled over and the fig continued to grown developing a curtain of roots. A spectacular sight.

Lake Barrine & Cruise
The sister lake to Lake Eacham has delightful boat cruises several times a day. A charming 1930’s tea house provides a delightful lunch and Devonshire tea. A five kilometre walk around the lake may offer delightful surprises like the smallest kangaroo in the world, the musky rat-kangaroo.

Malanda Falls & Interpretative Centre
On the outskirts of the Malanda village is the falls, for nearly a century the local natural swimming pool. The informative visitors centre display explains the volcanic geology of the area, the tropical highland rainforest and the local indigenous culture. Look for tree kangaroos while walking through the rainforest walks signposted.
